We really chased John Mayer!

Published August 11, 2013 by ChasingJohnMayer

After the first show in Cleveland on 8-6-13 we were going to start heading towards Detroit for the show the following day and grab a hotel when we got tired. We ended up stopping to grab a bite to eat at a rest stop and took our time just chatting about how phenomenal the show was and all that jazz. Once we started driving again somehow we ended up getting off an exit that was nowhere near where we wanted to go. After we got turned around and headed back onto the highway is where the first of these 4 videos picks up. Sadly, we only chased and didn’t really catch anything, but it was still crazy, fun, and exciting! Morgan is a pretty new driver and I couldn’t in good conscience encourage her to drive like a maniac in unknown territory. I, on the other hand, definitely could have chased and probably caught, but I have terrible night vision and the headlights kill my eyes. So here are the videos of the highlight of the trip. The shows were fantastic, but this was really an adrenaline rush! They are all pretty short and kind of silly, but that’s the whole point of this blog!Be warned, there is some (not much) foul language in them incase you’re easily offended.

First show Rocked: John Mayer in Cleveland 08-6-13

Published August 10, 2013 by ChasingJohnMayer

August 6, 2013 was the first John Mayer show to which we were heading. It was a 6 hour drive from our quaint lil town of Clarks Summit, Pa (located near Scranton.) We tried really hard to get a good night’s sleep the night before. Yeah, that didn’t happen! How could it with all this excitement and adrenaline?

Anyway, we left at 10:30am. We got to the Blossom Music Center around 4pm. Where we hung out until it was time to start moseying inside. We weren’t in a huge hurry because as I’ve already said, I had no desire to see Philip Philips and we had great seats. So it wasn’t like we had to go claim our spots.  So we meandered around, bought some merch, and took our pic with the Paradise Valley cover.

Philip Philips opened with about 45 minutes of music.  And as I’ve already stated previously I really did enjoy him!  He definitely has talent and he’s just adorable on top of that!  He was pretty well received, but a lot of seats were empty.  They were probably thinking the same thing we were originally.  Boy, we were wrong!   We’ll be seeing more of Mr. Philips as the tour continues.

John Mayer seemed to be in good spirits and well rested that night.  Not as much chit chat as previously seen at his concerts, but enough to make the screaming crowd feel welcomed and appreciated as well as add a bit of humor.  He seemed sincere and happy to be doing what he loves.  We had 4th row seats and aside from all the drunks which you have at nearly every concert, I don’t have any complaints!  Except that it was a long walk back to the parking areas and there wasn’t enough lighting!  I was worried I was going to break an ankle and then how would I make it to the rest of the shows?  Of course that would be my luck!  As luck would or would not have it, I did not get hurt that night or the next.  I waited to come home and have my knee kicked out by a patient at work!!!  (unfortunate hazard of being a psych nurse)  I’m not quiet sure how I’m going to navigate Darien Lake in 4 days!

Anyway, I was thrilled beyond belief to hear JM play Comfortable!!!!!  I love the new stuff, but I really love ALL of his old work too!  I think it’s sad when a musician evolves and then leaves his past behind.  I’m all for growing and enhancement, but You have to keep in mind what the people loved initially.  I think that John Mayer is attempting to do just that without having to relive his entire past.  He’s proving that he has grown and matured both musically and socially.  (But I still think 99% of all the stuff people hated him for saying was funny as hell!)

Here’s the setlist from that night.  What a GREAT night it was!!!!!

Queen of California
Paper Doll
I Don’t Trust Myself
Dear Marie
Half of My Heart
Goin’ Down the Road Feeling Bad
Love is a Verb
Slow Dancing in a Burning Room
Comfortable
Wildfire
Something Like Olivia
Who Says
If I Ever Get Around to Living
Waiting on the World to Change
Speak for Me
Age of Worry
Gravity
Angel From Montgomery
Born and Raised
Face to Call Home

But Wait!  Our night didn’t end there!  Tomorrow I’ll Let you know how we ended this super exciting night!!!!  Not exactly like we wanted to, but still crazy nonetheless.

8-7-13 Just a quick update from the road!

I have much more to tell about our adventures from yesterday, 8-6-13, but sadly, I don’t have enough time to upload the songs. My daughter Morgan worked very hard to get some good quality videos with our video recorder after one of the employees of the blossom center “warned us” about not taking videos as everyone around us was taping on their smart phones!!! It was kind of discouraging. Then the most exciting part was how we truly did end up “chasing” John Mayer’s tour bus! Talk about luck & lack thereof!!!!! lol The story is crazy at the very least. All of this will have to wait until a later time since we didn’t get to a hotel room until 5:00am and now we have to get ready for today and the show in Clarkston, MI! Starting with something to eat! We haven’t been worrying about silly stuff like food!

I’m really looking forward to sharing all the fun, hopefully soon!

Philip Philips was quite impressive! 8-6-13

Ok, first things first, the Philip Philips/John Mayer concert last night @ the Blossom Music Theatre in Ohio was FANTASTIC! I have to say, I was not looking forward to seeing Philip Philips at all! We went in early enough to see him with the intention of just checking out how long he played so we could try to figure out our own schedule for the remaining shows we are planning on seeing so we could skip them.

I have to tell you here that I am not a fan of American Idol. I have never watched the show even one time and while I know most of the contestants are actually real musicians/artists in some capacity, I haven’t really given the winners much credit up until now! Sure a few like Kelly Clarkson & Carrie Underwood have made it pretty big and do appear to have talent, but for the most part I’ve always said, “They were just instant celebrities produced by the media.”

Seeing Philip Philips last night did change my mind @ least as far as he is considered. He was terrific with a young fresh look and sound! He seemed very down to earth and really into his music! He was all smiles as he played his short set. I really was impressed! Impressed enough that I do believe I’ll make sure I get there early enough to see him again! He was a lot of fun & I can’t wait to see him again tonight!

Here is a little snippet from last night. Not really great visually, but I wanted to share a something with you all.

Last minute details for John Mayer show #1 on 8-6-13

Published August 2, 2013 by ChasingJohnMayer

Here we are 4 days away from the first of our John Mayer concerts in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio. It almost seems impossible how quickly the time flew by. Today we’re going to do some last minute preparations i.e. house cleaning for the dog sitters, shopping for last minute necessities, cleaning the bug. All part of the travel process I truly hate! lol

We also got a new video recorder that we have to get a 2nd battery & an SD card for. I’m feeling kind of lazy today. Better have a cup of coffee & get a move on it.

On a different note, I wonder what JM has been doing with his free time the last several days. Haven’t seen many posts on any of his blogs except a pic of a 18 wheeler advertising Katy Perry & a grade school class photo. Hmmm, he really does seem to be much tighter lipped & keeping his “personal time” more personal. Come on John, Throw us a bone!! We miss you!!!

here are a few John Mayer adorably cute funny faces to brighten your day!
